$99 Deal Alert! Cheap Flights to Amsterdam, Other European Cities on Sale for Leap Day

We only get a Leap Day once every 4 years, so how are you going to seize the day on Feb. 29, 2024?

How about by booking an affordable flight to Europe? (Speaking of stuff rarely seen.)

Iceland's no-frills upstart Play airline, which launched operations a little more than 2 years ago, is running a sale this week for flights from the United States to Europe starting at just $99 one way.

You'll need to hurry to grab the offer: Tickets must be booked by 11:59pm ET on Friday, March 1. Travel dates are available through Dec. 16.

The $99 one-way price advertised applies to passengers booking Play's basic fare for round-trip flights from New York Stewart International Airport (SWF; about 72 miles north of New York City), Boston Logan (BOS), Baltimore (BWI), and Washington Dulles (IAD).

Play's discounted flights go to these European destinations: Reykjavík, Iceland (KEF); Paris (CDG); Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH); Amsterdam (AMS); London Stansted (STN); Berlin (BER); and Dublin (DUB).

No matter where you plan to end up, you will have to stop in Iceland and catch a connecting flight if you opt for Play's offer (unless of course Reykjavík is your final destination).

In recent months, Iceland has been affected by a good deal of volcanic activity, including a January eruption only about 12 miles from the airport

Despite that, the eruptions have mostly impacted other areas, and flights continue to arrive and depart with no major disruptions. Airlines should contact passengers directly if there are any changes in the schedule. You can keep an eye on things ahead of time by monitoring the website of Iceland's national airport authority

Other things to know about Play's Leap Day offer:

Tickets must be booked via the airline's website, FlyPlay.com, where you'll find a list of eligible dates and destinations.

Taxes and some fees are covered in the amount you'll pay when booking, but as Play notes in its offer, "baggage fees apply." And on Play, as on many low-cost carriers, there are a lot of baggage fees—for checked as well as carry-on luggage. Passengers also have to pay extra for seat selection, onboard meals, and other services.

Still interested? Go to FlyPlay.com and celebrate Leap Day by carpe-ing the heck out of that diem.
